I'm Helen Billows, a registered psychologist, accredited EMDR therapist, supervisor and trauma nerd. I’ve spent years helping people process their trauma using evidence-based therapy that actually works.
As trauma expert Bessel van der Kolk puts it, EMDR is "bizarre and wondrous". It’s also one of the most evidence-based trauma treatments available. Here’s how it works.
Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a powerful and effective trauma therapy backed by decades of research. It targets the stuck memories causing your problems.
You're the best judge of that. If your past still feels present, there’s a good chance trauma therapy could help. You don’t need a diagnosis to know something isn’t right.
What do you need for online EMDR therapy?
✔️ A reliable internet connection
✔️ A private space (preferably with a blanket and cup of tea)
✔️ A desktop/laptop computer or tablet with a camera and microphone
Online EMDR therapy might not work for you if:
✖️ You have no private space
✖️ Your internet connectivity is unstable
✖️ You're in crisis or need emergency mental health support
✖️ You feel unsafe in your current environment
✖️ You don't have access to any device other than a mobile phone
